Last week marked the release of Florence Welch’s debut album, Lungs, under the moniker Florence + The Machine. Welch is a London native who grew up on indie, punk, and renaissance paintings. Being an intellectual book and art nerd has influenced the artists soulful indie sound, which has been talked about long before Lungs hit the shelf, thanks to performances at big fests in both the US and UK last year. The folks over at Cincinnati’s (soon to be Austin’s) WOXY do a better job than I of describing her sound as “equal parts Kate Bush, Karen O, and Ida Marina”. No word on when we’ll get to see her anytime soon on US soil, she has shows booked up until November all over Europe. In the meantime, enjoy album opener “Dog Days Are Over”, streaming below.
